Nearly every day I come to work I help someone choose a domain name… to most people choosing their domain name is a daunting task, here are some tips that will help you to choose the best domain name for you and your business:
- Avoid using your name. When you first start out you name is not well known- sure Tom Cruise could get away with www.TomCruise.com, but until you achieve such fame stick with a more descriptive name.
- Keep the spelling simple. Avoid using numbers in place of words.
- Never trust your domain to a .net, .info, or .biz. Chances are if you customer is working from memory they will visit the .com site instead- driving traffic to a competitor or a non-existent site.
- Pick a domain name that describes what you do or your unique value proposition. Consider adding adjectives to the domain if your first choice is not available. For example many people want OrlandoHomes.com, but how about TopOrlandoHomes.com- this domain is just as good.
